Preservation Architect and Artist Carl F. Schmidt was a nationally recognized authority on American architectural history who devoted most of his leisure time to locating and documenting regional architecture of New England and Western New York. He amassed an extensive collection of measured drawings, sketches, and photographs that illustrate his numerous architectural writings. Starting with his first book in 1944 Schmidt raised the money to print his books himself and continued to self-publish his works throughout his lifetime.
