The Fall of Gondolin. First edition, signed by the illustrator on the title page. Alan Lee's illustrations of Tolkien's world were a key inspiration for Peter Jackson, who recruited Lee as a lead concept artist for the films. This work was Tolkien's "first real story of this imaginary world", Middle-earth (Letters, p. 215). It was collected within The Silmarillion (1977) prior to its first separate publication here.
