Illustrated with twelve panoramic color drawings by Foujita. Text in English. Approximately 6½ × 3⅞ inches. ISBN 9789198465198. A scarce, out-of-print publication reproducing an intimate illustrated travel booklet created by Tsuguharu Foujita during a journey through Japan in 1934. The twelve drawings, previously unpublished before their appearance in this volume, present a playful visual record of Foujita’s travels with his wife, Madeleine Lequeux, and their friend Eduardo de Arteaga through Kobe, Kyoto, and the island of Itsukushima, popularly known as Miyajima. Foujita’s Private Illustrated Diary During October and November 1934, Foujita traveled through Japan with Lequeux and Arteaga, a Uruguayan diplomat whom the couple had known during their Paris years. As a personal gift for Arteaga, Foujita created a small booklet containing twelve panoramic color drawings recording the journey. The original was not intended for commercial publication. Its informal scenes preserve the travelers’ experiences through visual jokes, handwritten observations, miniature narratives, and affectionate caricature
