$250 · Offered by William Reese Company
LA SUCESION PRESIDENCIAL EN 1910. The third edition of this work on presidential succession in Mexico by Madero, who served as president of the country from 1911 to 1913. The work first appeared in 1908; this third printing is a copy of the second edition of 1909. The text has been reprinted numerous times since it was first published, with editions published in 1958, 1960, 1963, 1976, and 1986. An English translation appeared in 1990.Madero was the son of an elite established family who became involved in revolutionary politics in Mexico after observing the economic and social conditions found under Mexico's long-time dictator Porfirio Díaz. In the 1910 Mexican presidential election, Díaz was declared the winner with a massive majority in his favor. Madero refused to recognize the incumbent's victory and began plans to assume the provisional presidency. This coincided with other revolutionary actions, including those by Francisco Villa. Díaz was overthrown the following spring, when Madero signed the Treaty of Ciudad Juárez and demanded the resignation of Díaz as a condition for an armistice.Interest in Madero has continued to the present day. In addition to the later editions of the Sucesion listed above, selections of the former president's writings were published in 1988 and his complete works appeared in 2000. Offered here is a good copy of this significant work on Mexican politics and government printed at the time of the Mexican Revolution.
