A fine copy of the first edition of Bizot’s first novel (the title might translate as The Leap of the Lizard) set in the world of American-French relations in Cambodia in the 1980s. With a fine presentation inscription “Pour Jane et David ce roman sur nous-mêmes, aussi triste que l’homme abrité chez vous avec Laura …en profonde affection, en chaleureux hommage.” [“For Jane and David this novel about ourselves, as sad as the man sheltered in your home with Laura. In deep affection, in warm admiration.”] The sadness references the death of his daughter Laura, who had died at the age of 12 the preceding year.
