HALL, Radclyffe. Falcon Press Uniform Edition. London: Falcon Press . 1950. 8vo. Six volumes. Original blue cloth lettered in gilt to spines, in the dust-jackets individually priced to front flaps; light edgewear and rubbing to cloth and jackets, most noticeably to The Well of Loneliness; the remainder seemingly unread. A very presentable, very good to near fine set. The six volumes of the Falcon Press uniform edition of Radclyffe Hall’s novels, all but one first editions thus; uncommon as a complete set. A complete set of the uniform edition of Hall’s six novels issued by the Falcon Press between 1949 and 1952. The Unlit Lamp (1924), Adam’s Breed (1926) and, her most celebrated work, The Well of Loneliness (1928), were all issued in 1949; the Falcon edition was the first British reissue of The Well of Loneliness following the obscenity ruling that led to the book’s withdrawal shortly after publication. The remaining three works – The Forge (1924), A Saturday Life (1925) and The Master of the House (1932) – followed in 1952. Hall’s two volumes of short stories were not included in the edition (a later eight-volume uniform edition, issued by Hammond, Hammond from 1956, would also include the stories). All the volumes offered here are first editions thus, except, predictably, The Well of Loneliness , which is the third impression of 1950. SKU: 2126944
