Narrative of a year's journey

£650 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books

Although Arabia had been all but closed to Europeans for some time, Palgrave, a Jesuit, undertook this journey to ascertain how far missionary enterprise was possible among Arabs. This work was considered one of the most fascinating of 'modern' travel books in the late nineteenth century. Third edition, 2 volumes, 8vo. engraved portrait frontispiece, lacking folding map, four double-page lithographed plans, original green cloth gilt, gilt vignettes to upper covers, neat repairs to extremities, a very good copy.
