Uttar Pradesh.- Hand sketch of [Rampur] Fort Buildings, manuscript plan in black and red ink, manuscript additions in red ink, blue crayon and pencil, folds, some insect damage, stained, lightly browned, 998 x 956mm., Rampur, [?c.1920] *** Our identification of probable place results from the inclusion of the following: 'Hamid Manzil', with it's distinctive turreted corner towers. This was an Indo-European mansion built by Nawab Hamid Ali Khan inside the fort in c.1902-1905; the 'Rang Mahal', built late 19th / early 20th centuries; and also the 'Toshakhana' or royal treasury. Rampur Fort was never intended for defensive purposes, but rather as a royal residence with administrative and cultural functions.
