The first book to be published on the history of Peterhof, complete with 33 views of the palace and two plans. The author, General von Heiroth served as senior adviser to the Peterhof palace administration for nine years and was also one of the most important publishers in St Petersburg at the time. The work is divided into two sections, the first is dedicated to the history of the complex and the second is a contemporary guide to the numerous residences, lakes, gardens and churches which make up Peterhof. A scarce and richly illustrated work with two folding plans First edition, 8vo (27 x 17 cm); frontispiece portrait of Peter the Great, 33 engravings with decorative borders, two folding plans at the rear, scattered minor foxing; original wrappers bound in, contemporary pencil numbering to wrappers, near contemporary half blue morocco over blue marbled boards, spine in parts with raised bands with title in gilt to second part, spine slightly faded, minor wear to top of spine, a very good copy.
