My Own War in Malaya. First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Brian, with every good wish, Denis Russell-Roberts." The author describes his experiences of the Malaya Campaign, beginning with the preparation of defences in late 1941 and ending with the fall of Singapore and his internment in Changi POW camp. This work is the much scarcer forerunner to Spotlight on Singapore, published by Russell-Roberts in 1965. We have traced only six institutional copies: Imperial War Museum, Oxford, Cornell, State Library of New South Wales, National Library of Singapore, and National Library of Malaysia. The recipient, the historian Brian Harrison, held academic appointments in Malaya and Hong Kong and wrote an enduring history of south-east Asia.
