Twenty-Nine Poems of Chairman Mao [Cultural Revolution-era mimeographed version.] A homespun poetry collection issued by student radicals almost certainly affiliated with one of the major universities in Beijing or Shanghai. The mimeograph machine was the lifeblood of the Cultural Revolution, allowing Red Guards to circulate their own materials and undermine the state's strict control on the county's formal printing infrastructure. This collection includes the key poems of the Maoist canon, such as "Reply to Comrade Guo Moruo" and "Shaoshan Revisited." In terms of their circulation in print, these poems eclipse those by all other 20th-century authors.
