Isshunen kinen: Shina Jihen Manga Chizu ("Comic Map of the Second Sino-Japanese War, Printed on the One Year Anniversary"). A colourful propaganda map celebrating one year of Japanese control of Manchuria. It was printed for the Tokyo Daily News' children's newspaper and shows small cartoon Japanese and Chinese soldiers fighting across the region. We have traced no copies on WorldCat.The map shows Japanese soldiers dressed in white and Chinese soldiers dressed in grey. The Japanese soldiers are smiling and helping civilians while the Chinese soldiers are press-ganging local men into service and stealing from the poor. One section shows two Chinese soldiers telling a group of civilians, "Don't worry, don't worry, we have achieved many great victories". Meanwhile, two birds sitting on a tree above their heads say to each other, "They're all lying".The Chinese army is also shown as incompetent, fleeing at the first sign of Japanese incursions or crashing the aeroplanes they had bought from the Western powers. American and British businessmen are drawn sipping tea in Hong Kong oblivious to the fighting, supplying the Chinese in secret from India, or sitting on Hainan Island worrying about how they would lose money if Japan won the war.The verso features a cartoon strip telling the story of Admiral Togo, "The Nelson of the East"; a guide to Nazi ranks and insignia; and a large illustration of the Italian Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero bomber.
