Some Aspects of Japan and Her Defence Forces. First edition, scarce in commerce. Captain Malcolm Duncan Kennedy (1895-1984) studied Japanese at SOAS and served as an intelligence officer from the 1920s through to the end of the Second World War. The last decade of his career was spent with MI6. The attractive woodblock print shows the country's gunnery in action at Yokohama. The chapters, which review the history of the modern Japanese military and "some matters of importance to national defence," are based on articles Kennedy submitted to several military magazines in the 1920s.
