Radiation Matters 1-3.

£100 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books

A rare and unusual set of newsletters by the 'Network Opposing Nuclear Ecocide', published in downtown Las Vegas during 1991 (the latter two numbers being dated to July and October of that year). The first two issues focus on the dangers of hydrogen bombs contaminating large areas by destroying nuclear power plants, with the first issue comprising an excerpt from The Fate of the Earth by Jonathan Schell (1982), an important work in the history of the disarmament movement. The third number contains an editorial titled 'Anthropocide, Anyone?' Radiation Matters seems to have been the short-lived project of its editor, Lawrence W. Skinner, and appears only glancingly in the historical record, named in a list of documents by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and in a handful of places in the radical press. It is mentioned in a letter to the editors of the Nation in 1991, presumably a missive written by Skinner himself. The first two issues include sign-up forms on the backs, with Skinner requesting the equivalent of four postage stamps. The third number is described as 'free' and does not include a form. 3 loose leaves of white paper, text printed in black on both sides, fine condition.
