Andrews, an East Indian Railway official, had proposed a railway along Euphrates, linking Europe with the Arabian Gulf at Basra, as a direct route between Britain and India. Although it had its supporters, the scheme was abandoned with the building of the Suez Canal. Second edition; 8vo, 95, [ii], pp., 44pp.ads (dated July 1882), 2 folding maps (1 coloured), original brown cloth gilt, corners bumped, a very good copy.
