United Arab Emirates. First edition of this work promoting the modernization of the UAE. This was produced just seven years after the country's formation and highlights its history, biodiversity, agriculture, architecture, and commerce. The three landscape volumes are a biography of Sheikh Zayed, a study of Islam in the region, and a report on the effects of oil on the country's government and welfare systems. The text was contributed by Peter Hellyer (1947-2023), a British-Emirati filmmaker and historian. In 1969 he was hired to film the official foreign visits of Sheikh Zayed, who he followed to France, Iran, Egypt, and Sri Lanka. He was instrumental in the launch of the English-language service of the Emirates Press Agency and was the managing editor of Abu Dhabi's first English-language newspaper, Emirates News. There are only three copies listed on WorldCat in Middle Eastern institutions: at the United Arab Emirates University, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, and NYU Abu Dhabi.
