Cannery Row John Steinbeck Viking | New York | 1945 8vo | First Edition/Second State Condition: Good Hardcover bound in yellow cloth, black titles to spine and front cover, light blue stripes to front. Spine caps are bumped. Corners are slightly scuffed. Decorative blue stain to top edge of text block is a bit faded. Toning to remaining edges of text block. Some soiling to cloth over joints and at spine caps. Else, binding is tight, and hinges and joints are taut. Interior pages are clean, though toned. Front endpaper has a previous owner's bookplate and a handwritten price mark in ink at the top corner of the front free endpaper. Otherwise, no stains, markings, foxing, tears, or wrinkles. Dust jacket shows wear- chips and small tears at edges and corners, rubbing to edges and over joints, and toning, especially at spine panel. Still, original price is intact to front interior flap, and the jacket is now protected in archival mylar. Published January 1945 with no further printings listed to copyright page. Yellow cloth cover indicates this is the second state of the first edition. Please see attached photos for greatest detail.
