Lafferty first met critic and writer Sandra Miesel at Noreascon I in 1971, and she wrote the entry on Lafferty in THE ST. JAMES GUIDE TO SCIENCE FICTION 1996 . Like his stories, Lafferty's letters are characterized by his deft sense of humor and quirky wit. He refers to pseudo-Medieval fantasies such as Marion Zimmer Bradley's THE MISTS OF AVALON 1983 as Heroic Tedium and proudly states that his novel ARCHIPELAGO 1979 is worth 12.95. It's the only novel published in the United States
