The Colony of Western Australia: A Manual for Emigrants to that Settlement or its Dependencies:
£3,000 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd
A very good copy of the first issue complete with the folding map, one of the earliest maps of the colony and certainly the most up to date one of the time. It was compiled by John Arrowsmith from information gleaned by John Septimus Roe, surveyor-general to the fledgling colony. Ogle provides a neat precis of each region of the colony including its local history and the agriculture best suited for it. This emigrant’s manual focuses on the acquisition, use and maintenance of property and all of the information it holds is organised accordingly - from the list of landowners and the specifics of their holdings to relations with local Aborigines. Ferguson, 2819.
