Original artwork for Everybody's Lamb: "It Was an Ominous Sign When He Appeared in His Old Unkempt Wig". Published in Everybody's Lamb (G. Bell, 1933) on page 34. Shepard's illustration is of Rev. James Boyer, the tyrannical headmaster of Christ's Hospital from 1776 to 1799, and accompanies the text "woe to the school, when he made his morning appearance in his passy, or passionate wig. No comet expounded surer" (from Charles Lamb's essay "Christ's Hospital Five and Thirty Years Ago").
