Souvenir d'Alep (Syrie). Panoramique d'Alep.
£250 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd
A handsome panorama of Aleppo in the 1920s, capturing its picturesque grandeur before the ravages of recent conflict. It was produced by Wattar Frères for their eponymous shop, which was among the most prominent retailers of photographs and photographic equipment in Aleppo during the first half of the twentieth century. They also published a stunning range of photographic postcards, showing views, architecture and portraits from across Syria and Southeast Anatolia. There were two issues of the panorama: the present black and white version, which is uncommon, and a rare coloured version.
