LE GUIN, Ursula K.

£4,500 · Offered by Peter Harrington · No longer available

A Wizard of Earthsea; The Tombs of Atuan; The Farthest Shore. First editions of the novels comprising the original Earthsea trio, "one of literature's best-written fantasy worlds" (Mitchell). Two other Earthsea novels, Tehanu and The Other Wind, followed in 1990 and 2001, but it is the original three that established Le Guin as one of America's foremost fantasy authors. The first printing of A Wizard of Earthsea has the publisher's faint vertical smudge on the title page, as here. Its binding is a mix of the two states described by Currey, issued with the reinforced inner hinges but without the rear cover noting it as a library binding; there is no priority. The Tombs of Atuan has the cancel copyright label mounted over the printed copyright statement. The Farthest Shore is in Currey's first issue binding, the cloth not stamped identically to the jacket as in the second issue.
