Aubrey Beardsley and Other Men of the Nineties. First edition, number 79 of 100 hand-numbered copies only, printing the "lecture delivered at the Brooklyn Museum of Science and Art on the occasion of the Beardsley exhibition, November 1923" (title page).Provenance: William Andrew Clark Jr. (1877-1934), a philanthropist who funded the construction of the Clark Library, California, in 1924-1926, donating his substantial book collection to it upon its completion. His black morocco book label is on the front pastedown, facing a gift inscription by him: "To Cora E. Sanders, compliments of W. A. Clark Jr. 3/18/26". Sanders (1872-1964) worked for Clark as his secretary and assistant librarian until his death, whereupon she became the curator for the Clark library.Joseph Pennell (1857-1926) was an American lithographer and illustrator, producing work for books and magazines and teaching at the Slade School of Art and the Art Students League of New York.
