(Promoted)'. Beneath which the recipient has written a note about Betjeman's use of comic soubriquets. Mitchell, ennobled as Lord Gowing, has written several other extensive and riveting notes in the early leaves of the book, including personal reminiscences of the author and the book's dedicatee, Lord Berners. First edition, first impression; INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR; 8vo; printed on blue paper, illustrations by Osbert Lancaster, de Cronin Hastings, Gabriel Pippet and others, light toning to leaves; publisher's black cloth, title and decoration to upper cover and spine gilt, blue endpapers, top edge gilt.
