A compilation of material on the British colonies in North America, published during the Revolution and just before Spain entered the war against England on the side of the United States and France. The author compiles a variety of sources to produce sections covering Virginia, Maryland, New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the Carolinas, and Georgia, with additional chapters on Canada, Florida (which Spain was about to wrest from England in the war), indigenous religion and customs, and American plants. Chapters typically describe the region geographically and politically, and also provide a brief history of their settlement, including an account of the Mayflower pilgrims and their early dealings with the Patuxet tribe. This copy has the bookplate of the prolific collector Rubén J. Dussaut.
