This is a signed and inscribed first edition of the 2003 James Beard Award-winning cookbook by Lois Ellen Frank, published by Ten Speed Press in 2002. The title page bears Frank's full signature along with a handwritten inscription that reads "Enjoy these Southwest Native American Recipes." Frank is herself part Kiowa and spent four years on reservations documenting traditional cuisine for this book. She worked alongside Navajo chef and culinary advisor Walter Whitewater to bring over 80 traditional and contemporary recipes to a wider audience. The photography throughout is stunning, with the kind of full-bleed, richly colored images that make this as much a visual document as a cookbook. Recipes include posole, blue cornmeal and piñon hotcakes with prickly pear syrup, stuffed tempura chiles, Zuni sunflower cakes, and prickly pear ice. With Indigenous foodways, Native American cuisine, and land-based cooking getting major cultural attention right now, this signed copy is especially relevant. ISBN 978-1-58008-398-0. 208 pages.
