Rare account of a month-long trip from St. Louis to Alaska to inspect the recently established mining operation of the Knight's Island Alaska Copper Company (KIACCO, which operated locally as the Hubbard & Elliott Company) in Prince William Sound, with this pamphlet subsequently published to inspire shareholder confidence and attract new investors. KIACCO held eighteen claims of twenty acres each on Knight Island. Arthur Richard Deacon, KIACCO treasurer and his associate Frank Everts left St. Louis on August 1, 1907, traveling through Seattle and finally arriving in Valdez, Alaska three weeks later. After a short stay in Valdez, they proceeded to Kiacco Cove (so named for the Company), Knight's [i.e., Knight] Island, which is located in Prince William Sound, southeast of Anchorage.Deacon and Everts' detailed narrative includes travels with KIACCO president A.W. Tibbitt; interactions with the indigenous Chugach people on the island; seeing thousands of seasonal salmon in a mountain stream; examining copper mines and copper samples, and much more.
