The author chose to spend four months of his leave during 1928 and 1929 travelling over 10,000 miles by water, rail, road and air throughout Africa. Having just been made Director of the Nigerian Medical Service his object was to look into the medical organisations of the Colonies visited and to encourage cooperation between them for the better understanding and control of the tsetse fly and sleeping sickness.
