Ghastly Good Taste. Or, a Depressing Story of the Rise and Fall of English Architecture. First edition, second state, inscribed on the front free endpaper, "Albert Edward Doyle, with love from the clever author, Sept. 14 1933". Betjeman also added a drawing to the inscription, presumably of the recipient. Betjeman played an unusually active role in the production of Ghastly Good Taste and designed the mixed modern type layout used for the front board himself.Albert Edward Doyle (1886-1962) was an assistant editor in charge of production for the Architectural Review during the 1930s. He may have worked alongside Betjeman, who was an assistant editor for the periodical from 1930 to 1934. Correspondence between Betjeman and Doyle is held at the University of Victoria, Canada.
