La Fable de Psyché. First edition, one of 300 copies of this fine neoclassical printing. The suite of outline engravings is based on paintings by Raphael, reinterpreted by Frédéric Dubois (fl. c.1780-1819) and Pierre-Antoine Marchais (1763-1859) under the direction of Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson (1767-1824).Raphael's original frescoes adorn the ceiling of the Loggia di Psyche, a dining room at the Villa Farnesina in Rome. The Latin text is accompanied by a French translation by Claude-Ignace Brugière de Barante (1745-1814) and the preface includes a bibliographical account of earlier Apuleius editions.
