Oliver Messel (1904-1978) was 'Great Britain's leading theatre designer from the early 1930s to the mid 1950s..., [winning] international acclaim for his lavish, painterly and poetic designs informed by period styles' (V A Museum). He designed the sets and costumes for a production of Rossini's La Cenerentola at Glyndebourne in 1952. Ink, charcoal, gouache and water-colour on paper, signed in pencil 'Oliver Messel' on image, in fine condition, 350 x 230 mm; mounted, framed and glazed, 500 x 375 mm.
