'A handsome book' (Czech). A noted explorer, naturalist and hunter, Smith and his party explored the then unknown region between Somaliland and Lake Rudolph. They hunted lion, rhinoceros, leopard, kudu, elephant, buffalo, waterbuck etc. David W. Phillipson (b.1942) is the current Emeritus Professor of African Archaeology at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and was Director of the Museum of Archaeology Anthropology of the University of Cambridge for 25 years. His most notable work has been in Ethiopia, particularly on the archaeology of Aksumite sites. First edition; large 8vo (26 x 18 cm); 71 illustrations including portrait frontispiece and many plates by C.
