TRAVELS TO THE WESTWARD OF THE ALLEGANY MOUNTAINS, IN THE STATES OF OHIO, KENTUCKY, AND TENNESSEE, IN THE YEAR 1802.... An abridgement of the second English edition, translated from the original French, of this classic travel narrative, by one of the great early naturalists to work in America, later famous for his work on trees. Michaux left France for America in 1801 and travelled through South Carolina, New York, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee, returning to France in 1803. The map is noteworthy for locating the proposed states of "Franklinia" and "Morgania" to the east and west of Tennessee, respectively, and for showing the routes of a number of western roads.
