£675 · Offered by Peter Harrington · No longer available
Two Plays. First combined edition, the author's own copy with her ownership inscriptions on the front panel of the dust jacket and the front free endpaper, "My own first copy, E. B., March 21. 51.", with "London" added on the front free endpaper. This title comprises Lottie Dundass and Poor Judas. Lottie Dundass was first published by Heinemann in 1941. It was Bagnold's first play and opened in California in August 1941 at the Lobero Theatre. This is the first appearance of Poor Judas in book form: the play was awarded the Arts Theatre Prize the same year. Both plays are about "the frustrations of the artist who cannot follow his art" (Friedman, p. 69).
