The Temple Shakespeare. A set of the Temple Shakespeare, smartly bound by Maud Marshall, collecting all of Shakespeare's works. Marshall was one of a few female bookbinders working in the early 1900s, out of Bloomsbury square, and then a shop on Denmark Street. "Like many binders, Miss Marshall appears to have stopped binding with the outbreak of the First World War" (Tidcombe). The text is reproduced from the Cambridge Shakespeare editions, which use the original folios as their base text, leaving the grammar and meter unchanged but modernizing the spelling. Each volume has a preface by Israel Gollancz, a professor of English language and literature at King's College, London, from 1903-1930, and the uncle of Victor Gollancz, the publisher.
