An account of an unsuccessful expedition to climb Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest peak (unsuccessful). However the team were successful in ascending other peaks in the Himalayas such as Jonsong Peak. The party led by G. Dyhrenfurth and included the author attempted Kanchenjunga twice, but unfortunately due to avalanches could not complete the climb successfully and tragically resulted in the deaths of two climbers. Smythe was a fine photographer and one of the most prolific pre-war climbers taking part in many of the most famous expeditions.
