specially printed presentation copy inscribed by Douglas Cooper to his adopted son heir William [Billy] McCarty Limited edition of Picasso's Pour Eugenia, one of 500 copies, reproducing a suite of 24 drawings made by the artist in 1918. This presentation copy is not numbered but states on the colophon 'Exemplaire spécialement imprimé pour William McCarty'. Inscribed by the prominent art dealer and collector Douglas Cooper to his adopted son William McCarty, 'For Billy / a Christmas surprise / at Castille / with all love [Cooper's signature]' dated 26 December 1976. McCarty had been adopted by Cooper four years earlier in 1972. The arrangement, where the adoptee is not an orphan, was not uncommon in the world of the arts. Limited edition, inscribed by Douglas Cooper to William McCarty, one of 500 copies; oblong 4to, (24.3 x 30.5 cm); inscription in blue ink to front free endpaper, frontispiece, 24 full-page hors-texte illustrations, very light spotting to prelims, some minor marginal toning, otherwise unmarked internally; publisher's grey paper-backed boards, front cover lettered in black, stain to bottom edge of front cover, board edges and spine slightly toned, overall an attractive copy; 21pp text, 24pp descriptive text.
