This is a stated first printing (July 1944) of Animal Stories, written by Georges Duplaix and illustrated by Feodor Rojankovsky. Published by Simon & Schuster, this is one of the early "Giant Golden Books" that preceded the standardized "Golden Spine" era. • Illustrations: Features over 200 vibrant, full-color illustrations by Feodor Rojankovsky, a renowned illustrator and Caldecott Medal winner. • Format: Oversize hardcover bound in pictorial boards. • Condition Analysis: * Exterior: The boards show heavy "shelf wear," with significant rubbing and paper loss along the edges and corners (especially the spine). The spine strip appears to be mostly missing or heavily worn, which is very common for this specific edition due to its size and age. • Interior: The pages show some "foxing" (age-related brown spotting) and yellowing. The binding remains intact, and the "First Printing, July 1944" statement is clearly visible on the copyright page, which is the primary value driver for collectors.
