A note in ink on the verso of the front free endpaper states - “Of this book only thirty copies were printed, and distributed among the friends of the author. This copy was given to me by the Chevalier Brinkmana. Stockholm. March 20. 1818.” Here a narrow strip is cut from the page with, below the cut and in pencil, the note - “The name cut out was Strangford. The book having belonged to my friend Lord Strangford, the Ambassador to Sweden. J Phillipps”.
