Short notes and Sailing Directions on Making Passage; to Accompany a Chart of the South Atlantic.

£750 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd

A distinguished copy, formerly belonging to Geoffrey Ingleton and Ted Benttinen. The preface states that that these notes were abridged from Rosser’s South Atlantic Directory , which didn’t appear for another four years. The directions give “the Principal Ports of call, and for the Islands, to which is appended a Catalogue of all the doubtful Islands, Rocks, and Shoals.” The folding maps are titled “South Atlantic Currents” and the “South Atlantic [Track Chart].” Both include the South Shetland Islands. On page 26 includes a section “Caution respecting Sailing in the Iceberg Region.” OCLC locates copies at NYPL, Peabody Essex, and BL.
