This was the fifth of Ackermann's 'sumptuously illustrated volumes of English topography'. The finest pictorial record of the nine most famous schools in England, the artists include Pugin, Nash and Westall while the engraving was carried out by such masters of aquatint as Stadler, Bluck, Havell among others. The plates are chiefly of interior views with illustrations of gowned scholars.
