"The will of Peter Shitz left most of his estate to his sons Francis and Peter, but if they died without children, part went to his daughter Elizabeth. Hauer was the husband of Elizabeth, and he hired four Irishmen, newly arrived in the country, to kill his brothers-in-law. Two masked men raided the house one night and killed Francis with an ax, but Peter escaped. M'Manus and Hauer were hanged" - McDade.
