An important account of Ethiopia written by a Portuguese Jesuit, primarily relating to an account of Ethiopia in the second half of the sixteenth century whilst under the control of the Catholic patriarchs. Godhino wrote his work in response to the perceived inaccuracies of Luys de Urreta's account of Ethiopia, Historia ecclesiastica, 1610. First edition. 8vo, title page in red and black, [xvi], 414 pp., some old underlining, contemporary calf, covers ruled in gilt, spine richly gilt, green morocco lettering piece, a very good copy.
