A Laodicean; First edition thus, one of an estimated print run of 1,000 copies, in a smart contemporary Rivière binding. The novel was dictated to Hardy's wife from his sickbed. Harper's serialized it between 1880 and 1882 and then issued an American edition. This London edition, however, was the first to contain Hardy's final revisions.
