JOURNAL OF THE SENATE, AT THE FIRST SESSION OF THE SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY, OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: BEGAN AT KINGSTON...AND CONTINUED BY ADJOURNMENT TO ... The General Assembly was convened at Kingston on September 21, and for that single day, that city served as the Capital of the state. The senate adjourned later in the day, only to reconvene in Knoxville on the 23rd, and the capital was established there. "One of the four material provisions of the Treaty with the Cherokees, held at Tellico and concluded October 27, 1805, was that the Cherokees cede the land extending to Kingston. The thought was advanced that this city was considered a desirable location for the establishment of the seat of the State government. Whether any serious intent was actually given to this possibility is questionable" - Allen.
