Rare First Edition. Written by John Murray III. There were nineteen editions of this title between 1838-1904 but only the early editions between 1838-46 were actually written by Murray. First edition. lix, 367pp, 2pp " Corrections and Additions " bound in, folding map on linen at rear, spotted, folded panorama, slightly torn (approx 2 cm) publisher's advert pasted down on front and rear endpapers, front one dated "Sept 1840", library stamps from the "University Library of St Andrews" on reverse of half title; publisher's green cloth gilt decorated on upper board, gilt lettered, small library mark on spine, some wear to the top and bottom of spine, corners very slightly bumped; otherwise a very good copy.
