In 1887 Portal was ordered to attempt a reconciliation between the King of Abyssinia and the Italian Government, following a skirmish in which 450 Italian troops were killed. His mission was almost impossible, but he showed rare judgement and coolness in travelling through a disturbed country. This book was privately printed the following year. First edition. 8vo, [viii], 123 pp., original green cloth blocked and lettered in black, light toning, lightly rubbed, a very good copy.
