This pamphlet records events of and correspondence concerning the banquet given by wealthy New Yorker Cyrus Field in celebration of the signing of the Treaty of Washington, which was a major step toward reestablishing good relations between Great Britain and the U.S. after the Civil War, and correspondence concerning the affair. The treaty was signed on May 8, 1871, and the banquet was held on May 23. The two frontispiece photographs are group portraits of the American and British commissioners involved. An unusual instance of illustration with mounted photographs.
