TRIAL OF TWENTY-FOUR JOURNEYMEN TAILORS, CHARGED WITH A CONSPIRACY: BEFORE THE MAYOR'S COURT OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, SEPTEMBER SESSIONS, 1827. A scarce account of an 1827 trial held for a group of tailors in Philadelphia charged with conspiracy, and an interesting document of early labor disputes in the United States. The tailors had gone on strike to protest the firing of several employees who had demanded higher wages. The court found that their actions amounted to a conspiracy to harm commerce, and found them guilty, as was customary at the time under common law.
