Captain Slaughterboard Drops Anchor.

The 1939 Country Life printing of this book (the first edition), was almost completely lost due to 'enemy action' during the war and is now an almost mythic rarity. For this the revised edition Peake added colour to the illustrations with the paper also printed a variety of different colours. Truly notable not only for Peake's poetic writing style but also that of his fine illustrations, Captain Slaughterboard (a brilliant name!) tells the story of the titular captain and his raggedy crew aboard their ship The Black Tiger. Second edition; large 8vo; publishers yellow cloth, lettering to upper board in green; pictorial dust-jacket; a superb copy.
